Strings in Greece
Friday 24th May to Sunday 2nd June 2019

Enjoy a unique musical experience on the Greek island of Kythira, the southernmost of the Ionian islands.  Unspoilt by mass tourism, Kythira offers a rich variety of beaches, villages and countryside. Greece in May and early June is a revelation to those who only know the country in summer – the air is fresh and all the hills and meadows are green and covered in wild flowers.

Our schedule  mirrors Greek island life, with rehearsals in the morning and early evening, leaving the afternoons and late evenings  free for other activities.

The venue used for the bulk of our rehearsals is an open-air amphitheatre www.zeidoros.gr less than a stone’s throw from the sea in Kapsali .  Our ethos is non-competitive and inclusive.

This year's tutors, Ruth Gibson (viola) and cellist Adi Tal  www.fideliotrio.com/biography_adi.html are both recognised world-class performers, as well as both being great teachers - encouraging, informative and inspirational at all times. In addition to their teaching and conducting roles they will be giving a concert of their own during the course of the week
Year by year we continue to build on our partnership with the island's wind band, the Potamos Philharmoniki. Together we give memorable joint performances as part of our final concert.

Each year we organise a 'beach meal'  in a different island location. Last year this was in a sea front restaurant in Agia Pelagia in the north west of the island,  with tables set out on the beach, shaded by tamarisk trees, with views  over the Straits of Malea to the mountains of the southern Peloponnese.

Additional activities > During the week we organise  walks,  a sea trip in a glass bottom boat, a visual arts option, Greek cooking and, subject to interest, activities such as olive oil tasting and talks on Kythirian history. In addition, in 2019 we are offering pre- and post-course options - see application form
Fees > Cover music, tuition, use of venues self catering accommodation for 9 nights (arrival Friday 24th May to departure on Sunday 2nd June ), welcome 'party' drinks, mid-week beach and end of course meals, travel to organised music activities in other island locations and transfers to and from the airport/ferry. Extra nights accommodation can be arranged either side of the course.
