Welcome the new year with
Mid Winter Strings
11:00 Thursday 2nd January to 13:00 Monday 6th January 2020

Ruth Gibson (viola) and Robin Michael (cello). head up a three person tutor team for the forthcoming course (violinist yet to be confirmedd) The course encompasses a wide range of string music, each day offering 
  • Three string orchestra sessions (covering baroque, classical/romantic and 20th century works)
  • A  technique / sectional session
  • A chamber ensemble session with optional contemporary and cello ensembles (the latter subject to demand)
In addition there are
  • Three orchestral sessions over the course of the five days playing works specially written for allcomers string orchestra, with the composers and compostion tutor present
  • Two evening concerts given by the string tutors 
  • Optional informal evening orchestral sessions offering participants to try their hand at conducting 

Accommodation options are
  • Single or twin with washbasins (H/B or F/B) 
  • Single or twin ensuite (H/B or F/B) 
  • Day visitor (with  lunch and/or dinner)
All rooms have coffee and tea making facilities. Fees include entry to the public concert given by the tutors in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building.  Other options
  • Morning / afternoon teas/coffees and pastries
  • End of course lunch ​






The course uses the superb facilities of St Hilda's College Oxford and the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building.  The Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, the first purpose built concert hall in Oxford since the time of Handel, is located within the college grounds.

​The Jacqueline du Pré building accommodates the allcomers orchestral sessions, composers' masterclasses, evening concerts given by our tutors and our self-run pop-up bar.  It also features four practice rooms which can also be used for informal chamber groups.
